The paddle for life started after Lifeguards from Fistral beach held a “Joe Way memorial paddle” to raise money for the Precious Lives Appeal to build a children’s hospice in Cornwall in memory of Newquay toddler Joe Way.
The great thing about the Paddle for Life is anyone can set up a paddle.
The Paddle for Life is an open charity event.
There are several ways to get involved:
- Make a donation to our chosen charity through our web site.
- If you can paddle, you can participate in the event.
- Set up your own Joe Way Paddle for Life in your area.
- Attend the events and sponsor.
- Become a sponsor and a corporate friend of Joe (view corporate friends page).
- Make a donation or provide auction prizes.
We would like your organization or charity to take part or hold a paddle. The great thing about the Paddle for Life is anyone can set up a paddle. Chose your own charity or raise money for your club or school by signing up with us and holding a Paddle. Event organisers must ensure permissions are given and insurance is in place if required.
The rules are that you must paddle some sort of craft or board between two points (which don’t have to be fixed) and raise a minimum of £25 for any registered charity. You can also set up a new distance or idea just email us and we will add it to the on line form.
Distances are as follows:
Groms Under 14's - 200 metre paddle.
(strong swimmer) race paddle - 1km paddle.
Pro Paddle RNLI lifeguards only - 5km paddle.
Fancy Dress Fun Paddle - 200 metre paddle.
We will add new categories so go for it.
Surf board, Rescue Board, Canoe, Stand-Up Paddle Board, Body Board, Gig or other Boat.
Is there an alternate date for the paddle in case of foul weather?
Events will be rescheduled.
